Invention of Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola Syrup was invented by Dr. John Pemberton, an Atlanta pharmacist, and used as a tonic for headaches in 1886.  Legend has it that Pemberton discovered some of his shop boys diluting the syrup with club soda to quench their thirst in the hot summer weather.  Thus the soda drink Coca-Cola was born.

Dr. Pemberton, in poor health and with no means to market his new-found product, sold the formula, along with other equipment and machinery, for a few hundred dollars to Asa G. Candler in 1891.

Asa Candler, a fellow druggist and business man with aggressive advertising and promotion skills, drove his new product to be a household name.  Business flourished year after year and by 1895, Candler had offices in most major cities across America.

Today Coca-Cola is sold in 195 countries around the world and is the most widely sold trademarked product in history.
